Old Forester and Woodford are owned by the same parent company as Jack Daniels, called Brown-Forman, so flavor profiles are pretty similar. 1792 is not owned by the same company, however tends to lean in the same flavor direction as those others. The Flavour. Partly it’s the flavor. Jack Daniel’s, a Tennessee whiskey because of how it is made, has a smokey aroma with hints of caramel and vanilla, with some also reporting notes of butterscotch and toffee. It goes down smooth as silk, leaving a trail of short-lived fire before filling you with warmth. It finishes smooth, the flames 3/10 feels slightly harsh. This is entirely drinkable whiskey if not one or two dimensional, just not worth $100. I wound up with a bottle a few years ago I use it as a “fancy” guest pour although I’ll have one myself on occasion. If this was 90 proof and $50 it would be a hitter.

I am sure that all of us seasoned connoisseurs know this sour mash Tennessee whiskey quite well. Born in Lynchburg Tennessee, a dry county, and bottled at 80 proof. Corn mash filtered through charcoal, 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal to be precise. Jack is ageless (no age statement) whiskey, but it is matured in newly charred white oak barrels. Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon is a good bourbon that offers a lot of value. It may be categorized as a bottom shelf spirit, but the same cannot be said about its taste. The liquor is made from the same mash bill used in producing the more high-priced Basil Hayden’s bourbon. However, Old Grand-Dad Bonded bourbon has a much higher proof.

Well this will be a fun transition. Both grown and Jack honey are regarded and alcoholic sugar water. Moving into a strong Tennessee whiskey or bourbon will be fun for you. Jack Daniel’s would be my recommendation for this transition bottle (try a bended whiskey like TX or Elijah craig). Jack and gentleman Jack are from the same mash bill.
